   Introduction

Gram Flour (Besan) is the most common flour used by the sweet makers, hotels and households for various preparations. Many food items are prepared by addition of spices, Sugar etc. Besan is used for day to day food products in houses of rich and poor for variety of tastes and has several uses across the country and throughout the year. It is made from Gram Dal and is very popular especially in Western part of the country. It is used in sweet as well as spicy food and snacks preparations. Very common Indian flour, also called besan and chickpea flour this is made from dried chickpeas. It has a very earthy smell, a slightly nutty taste and is very high in protein. Probably its most well known use is to make the batter for onion bhajis and other pakora but it is also used as a thickener in curries. It is used to make fried batter balls called boondi, these can then be dipped in syrup to make laddu etc.


   Description

Gram Flour is flour made from ground Chana Dal, a legume otherwise known as chickpeas. It is also known as chickpea flour, garbanzo flour, or Besan. In the form of a paste with water or yogurt, it is also popular as a facial exfoliate in the Indian Subcontinent. When mixed with an equal proportion of water, it can be used as an egg replacer in vegan cooking. Chila (or chilla), a pancake made with gram flour batter, is a popular street and fast food in India. Gram flour contains a high proportion of carbohydrates but no gluten. Despite this, in comparison to other flours, it has a relatively high proportion of protein.


   Uses of Gram flour / Besan

╗ It is a versatile product used in many preparations round the year. Apart from individual   households, there are some institutional bulk consumers like restaurants, other eateries,     hostels and canteens, clubs, caterers, etc.
╗  Use as a tempura batter for fritters.
╗  Use to make Indian party savory snacks.
╗ Use to make vegetarian omelets. Mix 1/2 and 1/2 with organic buttermilk pancake mix to     make a more nutritious pancake. Add to soups as a thickener.
╗  Besan is also used as a kitchen beauty ingredient. Indian women regularly make homemade    face packs to use as a face scrub and toner, mixed with milk and cream and drops of rose     water (also available in our store), or simply with water.
