   Introduction

Mango is one of the popular fruits in the world due to its attractive color, delicious taste and excellent nutritional properties. Known for its sweet fragrance and flavor, the mango has delighted the senses for more than 4000 years. A celebrated fruit, mango, now produced in most of the tropical parts of the globe. Mango is the national fruit of India, where it is known as the 'King of Fruits'. Not only is it one of the most highly prized fruits of South Asia, it is also intimately connected with folklore and legends across many religions. Mangoes are juicy with a sweet taste and high water content. The fruit flesh of a ripe mango is very sweet, with a unique taste. In many parts of India, people eat squeezed mango juice (called Ras) and the ripe mango is used in the preparation of a dish.


   Description

 

The leaves are pinkish, amber, or pale green-colored when young and become dark green at maturity. Mango trees are deep-rooted, symmetrical evergreens that attain heights of 90 feet and widths of 80 feet. Mango trees have simple alternate lanceolate leaves that are 12 to 16 inches in length and yellow-green, purple, or copper in color when young. Mature leaves are leathery, glossy, and deep green in color. New leaves arise in terminal growth flushes that occur several times a year.


   Uses of Mango Fresh

»  Mangoes are widely used in chutney, which is usually made with sour, unripe mangoes and     hot chilis or limes.
» Mango juice may be spray-dried and powdered and used in infant and invalid foods, or     reconstituted and drunk as a beverage.
»  Mango is an excellent overall nutritional source rich in dietary fiber and carbohydrates.
»  Mango is used to make juices, smoothies, ice cream, fruit bars, raspados, aguas frescas,     pies and sweet chili sauce, or mixed with chamoy, a sweet and spicy chili paste. Mango is an     excellent overall nutritional source, rich in dietary fiber and carbohydrates. The mango is also     very rich in medicinal properties.
