   Organic Cumin Powder

Product Type - Cumin Powder
Botanical Name - Cuminum cyminum
Family Name - Apiaceae

   Introduction

Cumin seeds are the dried seeds of the cumin plant of the parsley family. Cumin seeds are small, oblong with longitudinal ridges and pointy ends, and are yellow-brown in color. Cumin was also noted for both its medicinal and cosmetic properties. The term usually means cumin, but can occasionally mean caraway, so in doubtful cases, cumin is generally to be understood. The use of the terms ‘black cumin’ for nigella, and ‘sweet cumin’ for aniseed or fennel, further confounds this confusion. As a general rule interpret jeera or zeera (jira, zira) as cumin and kalonji as nigella. When the seeds themselves are in doubt, cumin is easily distinguished from the other Umbelliferae by its flavour, and its shape and colour is quite different from nigella. Classically, cumin symbolised greed; thus the avaricious Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius, came to be known privately as Cuminus.
Cumin Powder adds fresh, earthy flavor to your curries and preparations along with its cooling effect. You can add it to your favorite nimbu pani ( Lemon Water) and lassi (buttermilk) to make them more delicious. It is carefully graded , hygienically ground and scientifically packed. No artificial colour used. The seeds are especially sourced from the well drained, loamy regions of Gujarat and Rajasthan, which makes the powder all the more beneficial, cooling and rich in flavor. Cumin is widely known as appetite stimulant and its medicinal properties help in curing stomach disorders like diarrhea and others.

   Description

Although the small cumin seed looks rather unassuming, it packs a punch when it comes to flavor, which can be described as penetrating and peppery with slight citrus overtones. Cumin's unique flavor complexity has made it an integral spice in the cuisines of Mexico, India and the Middle East. They resemble caraway seeds, but are lighter in colour and unlike caraway, have minute bristles hardly visible to the naked eye. They are available dried, or ground to a brownish-green powder. Cumin is freely available in the West, although it is not a traditional European spice. Cumin seeds powder, dry roast the cumin seeds in a hot non stick pan till it releases aroma. Cool down completely and grind to a fine powder.
